Is it odor only, or actual water/waste backing up?
The two have different urgencies: a dry trap is a 2-minute fix; a backup means a blockage is getting worse by the day.
Always de-energize the circuit and verify it's dead with a tester before opening any device. When in doubt, call a licensed electrician.
