What do you hear, and when?
A bang/thud as a valve snaps shut is water hammer. A moan or squeal during a toilet fill is a valve problem. Constant rattling when water runs is loose piping.
Always de-energize the circuit and verify it's dead with a tester before opening any device. When in doubt, call a licensed electrician.
