The display lights and buttons respond — is a TIMER, DELAY, or SCHEDULE icon showing on the panel?
A set timer or sleep delay keeps the unit from actuating even though the display is alive. Cancel it, then give it 5 minutes — most units also hold the compressor ~3 minutes after any mode change.
Always de-energize the circuit and verify it's dead with a tester before opening any device. When in doubt, call a licensed electrician.
